City of Montrose – N. 9th Street Sidewalk Extension

City of Montrose – N. 9th Street Sidewalk Extension

Project Description:

This project included the removal of asphalt pavement, curb & gutter sections, sidewalk, a section of existing road median, trees, fences, and miscellaneous obstructions prior to installation of new concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, curb ramps with ADA truncated domes, valley pans, and driveways.  Also, included in the project was installation of thermoplastic pavement markings at the road crossing and installation of landscaping rock and weed barrier in the boulevard between the curb and sidewalk. This project included a 10% contingency for change orders or unforeseen items, which was not needed.  Therefore, the only change order was for removal of the contingency and a modification for actual unit costs, resulting in a negative change order of $7,381.  Since 9th Street is a primary access road for local law enforcement in addition to significant local traffic, the length of road closure was a concern for the Owner.  The original traffic control plan included a 2-week hard road closure and a lane closure for the remainder of the project. The RVE team worked diligently and was able to complete all road work during the 2-week road closure period, and therefore did not require the subsequent lane closure traffic plan.  Overall, the project was completed a month ahead of schedule and under budget.
